Locally owned and family-run for more than 60 years, British Empire Fuels is proud to be the trusted name in HVAC services, propane and fuel oil delivery throughout Kawartha Lakes.

Once a humble oil delivery business, our experience has grown and evolved, allowing us to expand our services and employ a team of 40+ HVAC experts who operate out of locations in Lindsay and Bobcaygeon. 

We are proud to serve the communities where we live—including Bobcaygeon, Fenelon Falls, Peterborough, and Lindsay—and promise honest and genuine care for our clients. We are here to keep you warm in winter and cool in summer.

Our History

1940: The British Empire Coal Supply Co. is founded in Toronto by the Ewell family, immigrants from England.

1967: Bert Ewell, son of the founders, renames the company British Empire Fuels Inc. and relocates the business to the Kawartha Lakes area where he and his wife, Ruth successfully run the company for 14 years.

1981: Ross and Madeline Whyte, lifelong residents of the Kawarthas, purchase British Empire Fuels. Ross’s vast experience in the heating business helps the business grow and expand their offerings into HVAC services. 

2014: To better serve customers, British Empire Fuels opens a second location in Lindsay. 

Today: Ross and Madeline’s sons, Rob and Greg, operate the business based on the same customer service principles that were instilled into the business by their parents. We are extremely proud to still be a locally-owned, family-run business!
